  • 1.  Vendor Payment Journal permissions

I am trying to give someone the permission to create a vendor payment journal, while restricting that user from posting. Another user is the opposite, where the user should not be able to create but should be able to post. The issue I am running into is that the "New" button and "Post" button have the same menu item name "LedgerJournalTable5". This is making it so that either the New and Post options both show or they both don't. I am looking for a way to only give permission to one or the other, if that's possible.

Have you considered using a workflow? A user can enter the payment journal, and only after it is approved via workflow by the other user can it be posted.

    Pete,

While access to the Vendor Payment Journal page is controlled by the LedgerJournalTable5 menu item display, the Post button is controlled by the LedgerJourPost menu item action. So for the first scenario you should assign Create permission to the LedgerJournalTable5 menu item display and either no access or deny access to the LedgerJourPost menu item action and for your second scenario you should assign Read access to the LedgerJournalTable5 menu item display (and potentially deny access to Update/Create/Delete) and then any level of access to the LedgerJourPost menu item action.

Hi Alex, your response helped me solve the issue. How are you able to find the menu action item names? I have only been able to find the menu display name though a right click and then looking at the form information.

    Michelle,

In my post I provided a screenshot of the form in the AOT (in Visual Studio on a developer environment), this allows for a user to navigate the form and be able to see the objects tied to the individual menu options. This allowed me to find the object tied to 'Post' menu button which was the LedgerJourPost menu item action.

Unfortunately this type of information is difficult or sometimes impossible to find through the UI and you have to go into the development side to be able to gather the data.
