1.  Report hung for only one company

Posted 10 days ago
Hello all,

We have a weird issue. We are running AX 2012 R3 with multiple companies. Our AP clerks typically print the "Payment Summary By Date" report in Cash & Bank Management as a check listing after posting a payment journal. For some reason, we are encountering an issue where the user is suddenly unable to print the report for only one of the companies. It's as if the report is stuck. The same user can run the same report for one of the other companies without issue. Each of our clerks has had this happen once, in different companies.

We have cleared the user's cache and we know permissions haven't changed. The error message AX provides is a very unhelpful "For more information about this error navigate to the report server on the local machine, or enable remote errors".

Any ideas where to look?

Hello Steve,
Have you already tried restarting your report servers to see whether this resolves the issue?
Best regards,
Ludwig

So a couple of things that could be happening. it is possible that the timeout value in your SQL server is set to 600 seconds or 5 mins. You did not say what the timing on the issue was. I have had this and setting the timeout to say 1800 seconds corrected the issue.  One other possibility is that if you have customized this report you may have a condition where your filter may be causing the system to take a long time generating the data set and the ax client may be timing out by the way this usually happens around the 5 min mark as well. What we found was that in this case the query needed an index and the report went from timing out to running in 10 seconds.  you did not say if after experiencing this issue in the past  if they were able to run the report for the same time period at a later date. which points me to the last possible and that is that in the company you are having difficulties in you might have a data problem, maybe a deadlock preventing you from getting the tables, or possible a bad record.

Good morning gentlemen.

Ludwig, I do not know if our IT department has restarted the Report Server. I suspect that has been tried, as this has been an issue for one user for months at this point. However, I will inquire.

Paul, once this happens to a user, they are unable to successfully run the report for that particular company using any other data selection. They could limit the query to a single check number and it will still fail. They can run the report fine for our other companies. This was something we were willing to live with, having someone else run the report for them as needed, but it has now happened to a second user and affecting a different company.

Steve,
Have you tried running an AX trace when the user runs the report? It should show you where the hang-up is. If you have never run a trace before there is a good walkthrough at Tools for monitoring performance [AX 2012]
Microsoft remove preview
Tools for monitoring performance [AX 2012]
Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 Trace Parser - Trace Parser ships with Microsoft Dynamics AX. Trace Parser consolidates information from multiple sources, such as remote procedure calls (RPCs) and Microsoft SQL Server, to provide an integrated view of application performance at run time.
