The worker is not at work, but the selected absence group deducts hours from the worker's overtime balance. However, the flexible hours balance is not reduced.
For example, this registration type can be used if the worker is late for work but plans to work additional hours the same day or another day in the week, if that is permitted.

I have never used or seen it get transacted against on a project I have implemented or been on. I think it's mostly relevant if using Dynamics for payroll and you need to account for a scenario where the worker is making up hours that were not approved as an absence like a PTO or planned late start differently then them just being late. So in the planned "legal" scenario, you can take the absence and still get OT for that week if you hit it, for an unplanned "illegal" absence, you typically don't according to my understanding. I could not find a way to connect this type of absence to absence codes, absence groups, or activities to force a registration against. It must take place somewhere based on the worker's profile and an obscure relation that I am not seeing. Let me know if you have had any luck since you last checked.

From an MES perspective, how is an 'Illegal Absence' used and recognized for Time and Attendance purposes? We set it up per documentation, but how is it ever transacted on? There does not seem to be a connection to it from Absence Groups nor Absence Codes. Here a screenshot of the HR --> Setup --> Time and Attendance --> Calculation Parameters as a reference to what is in discussion.
