We are looking into AP Automation integration with D365 (OCR capabilities and workflows).  Does anyone have any positive experience they can share around Automation (OCR) partner along with insights they can share on issues to watch for lessons learned.  Looking for any insight into best practice and top notch partners.

    Hello Derek,
We made some quite good experiences with Readsoft, Insiders and Abbeyy for the OCR part in recent projects. They do also similar things but they have a wide variety of different plans available that come all with a different price tag.
For the workflow part, you might not need a 3rd party software. The workflow engine in D365FO is good and can be enhanced with standard tools (Flow, PowerApps, LogicApps) if required. Probably test out these standard features first before buying an expensive 3rd party solution for this part.
    Best regards,

    Ludwig Reinhard

Our organization attended an AX Users Group meeting in DC on April 26, 2018.  One of many topics discussed (briefly) was AP Automation.

One user shared how they are currently evaluating AP Automation solutions.  The four (4) solutions highlighted by this one particular user were:
    1) Dooap
    2) AXtension
    3) ExFlow AX (SignUp Software)
    4) DocLink (Altec)
We did not discuss the differences.  They did mention that having a MOBILE solution were very important to them.

Another user shared how they had evaluated 6-7 different solutions less than a year ago.  They noted that pricing was very different between the different options.  After an in-depth analysis they selected:
They mentioned they actually use two (2) of the AXtension tools.  For them it was important to have something "in AX' so it was "all right there".  Email and workflow were important parts of their design.

    Another solution mentioned was:
One user said they found it be more costly and more than what they were looking for.

    We use a solution called:
We had OnBase prior to our GO LIVE with AX.  OnBase has been a fantastic product for us.  It is much more than AP Automation, however, that was the first thing we used it for.  From there we have used it to go paperless with our HR files, create a variety of electronic workflows, etc. It includes OCR, and many other features.  I have always found it to be reasonably priced, and have always been a fan of their concurrent user licensing options, support and continued innovation.

    Hi Derek,

We worked with Microsoft to build the existing Accounts Payable Automation on one of our implementations last year.  On that particular implementation our Customer already had a relationship with Datrose (OCR vendor) and we used secure FTP to retrieve the OCR data and images each day.  Any invoices which had a faulty scan and therefore could not import successfully would go to a separate dashboard for manual review and processing.  See documentation here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/unified-operations/financials/accounts-payable/vendor-invoice-automation

Out of the box there are now data entities for Pending Vendor Invoice and Pending Vendor Invoice Attachment, using standard integration capabilities we were able to import in waves of invoices and with a small Extension we were able to automatically submit them to Workflow.  See an example below where the invoice image loads side-by-side with the invoice form itself.
