    Hi,

I am looking for a checklist of what to do when I want to copy one environment to another. I am wanting to be able to copy our Gold Environment (No transactions) to our test environment so I can then run a data migration test.

I know I have to stop all AOSs, stop report services, backup both environments and then import Gold to Test before restarting all the services but I dont want to miss any tasks out that I have not been told about. For example I know there is a Synchronisation step.

If anyone has a checklist that would be appreciated.

    Many thanks in advance
    Cheers
    Fraser

    Hi Fraser,

Which exact version of Microsoft Dynamics are you using?

    Hi Andre,

Many thanks for coming back to me. We are currently running AX2009 but are in the process of upgrading to AX2012. If possible we would want the solution put in for AX2009 and then update it when we move to AX2012.

    Cheers

    Fraser

    Hi Fraser,

The procedure itself is quite the same for AX2009 and AX2012 except the place where the business logic is stored. AX2009 has a directory with the application files where all AOT objects are in a model database in AX2012.

I do assume you are moving the "business" database only and not the application. In that case, you indeed have to do a database sync after the database restore.
Next to this, you may review batch task status for all jobs and change settings, if applicable, you may need to change paths or other integration settings to link the current environment to the correct file paths and test systems.

Note that AX2012 has environment specific ID which means that the same table name can have a different ID in each environment. In AX2009, you could move an xpo including the element IDs. In AX2012, the xpo and models don't have the element ID's. It is possible to sync environments with the complete model store which do have the element IDs. If the table , field or class IDs are different per environment, you might have sync issues or data loss. So ensure you have some environments updated with the model store to have business database compatibility.
