DIXF to Copy Vendors

    Hi all,

We need to stand up a new manufacturing site, which is set up in AX as a legal entity. We have 2 existing sites which were created during out initial go-live, also as separate legal entities - C01 and C02. The new entity will be C11.

I need to copy the vendors from C01 to C11, making a few entity specific changes (default warehouse, default site, default offset site), but making sure that the copy uses the same Party ID as C01, so that name and address updates are shared. The DIXF template used for our initial data load included fields for name, address, phone, fax, etc. It seems like that would be duplication of effort now, at best, and at worst could lead to entities not being properly linked to an existing party. I've very hesitant to try that out, even in a test environment.

Does anyone have any experience with this? We have nearly 2000 vendors, and using the "Copy Vendor to New Legal Entity" button on the vendor master would be a brutal option to use with even a fraction of that number.

we used DIXF (now called DMF) to copy vendors into a new legal entity, while keeping them linked through global address book.

I think all it took as populating the party ID in the template. (if it's empty DMF creates a new party)

    Hi Steve,
While MSFT has been making improvements to the scope and depth of records handled by DMF, it still has limits. If your looking for a more robust solution then this might be an option worth investigating: https://www.to-increase.com/to-increase-to-increase-master-data-management-studio. I believe Avanade also offers a similar solution.

    Hi Steve

I believe the Party solution will work. If you export your Vendors and ensure the party is the same when doing the new import it should copy over the GAB data.

    Thanks,

I've copied vendors from one entity to another in both 2012 and D365 using DMF - as long as you have the party number as part of the import, you should be good to go.

We did this a few years ago when de-virtualizing.

Try System administration > Common > Data export/import
Create a definition group with VendTable  and any related tables
System administration > Common > Data export/import > Export to
    Change company
    System administration > Common > Data export/import > Import

It was discovered later that PartyId was preserved when we copied these tables over

    This was done using R2CU7

Thank you for the responses. I'm hoping to have time to do some attempts in our test environment today. I will post an update when I have some (hopefully successful) results!

Here is the Avanade in appsource:

We use if for several master tables.

Hi Barr, Can you elaborate what do you see as the advantages of the Avanade tool over the out of the box "data sharing" option in D365FO? it was not clear from the link you attached.
