AX 2012: Cannot run SSRS report with customization

  • 1.  AX 2012: Cannot run SSRS report with customization

    Hello,

I made a new customization to the PurchTable List page: so added a few new EDTs to PurchTable and then created text boxes on the form that uses these new EDTs. Then I created a new report that uses these new fields to print on the report.

When I deploy the report to Live AX environment, it just doesn't work! Keeps giving this error:

I'm able to run this report in my own environment where I created the customization and the report. Is it a security issue that is preventing me from running the report in the Live environment?

    Thanks,
    Ruchika

    Ruchika,

In the environment you pushed this customization to, was a database sync and recompile done?

Do you have the same security on your local AX instance where you developed this and the live instance of AX where you deployed it?
Did you put security around the menu items created as part of this customization and have they been assigned?

Have you went to the reporting server to see what errors are generated there? The error you posted is a very generic error being produced because your AX environment cannot see the real error occurring. You could also check Event Viewer.

    Hello Alex, Jeff,

    Thanks for your responses.

I found out that after I open VS in PROD and run from there it gives this error:

Now, I don't see any such error in my environment. Please note that I had created 4 new EDTs in PurchTable and Salestable and must've deleted one of them and recreated it again. I really don't remember which one. However, I did synchronize the tables and did a complete CIL in my environment and it does not give any such error. PROD also has been resync'd and a complete CIL has been done.

As for security, I have full permissions in my environment. It has the Privileges created in my project and it has been assigned in PROD as well.

Would like to know how to resolve this error in PROD.

    Thanks,
    Ruchika

    Ruchika,

Well the good thing is that this isn't a permission error this is a code error.

The error you are getting is basically saying that the ID for one of the fields being used in the report doesn't exist so at some point during your customizations it was messed up. You also have the stack trace of where in your custom class this error is occurring so you should have a good starting point.

Is the environment you created this in a clone of your production environment? Because customizations like this should really be going through a code promotion process from DEV -> TEST -> PROD.

    Ruchika,

When I have seen this in the past it has typically be related to table security with the roles running the report not having the ability to read the table added to the report.  Are you getting the error in PROD or just other users?  If you are getting the error, do you have the same permissions in PROD that you do in your development environment?  Viewing the SSRS logs in your production environment will give you a great place to start with troubleshooting the issue.
