Hello,
I have a cross sales / production / logistic issue.
We sell products unit per unit, but for storage convenience we often put several product in a box. Let's say our standard pack size is 5.
If a customer orders 9 items, we'll send one box of 5 plus 4 products packed individually.
When having simultaneously several orders, we might end up with a need of 10 boxes of 5 and 20 products packed individually, for instance.
Very general question: what to implement to pack the goods appropriately? Without dealing with the production of each sales order separately.
The solution I've been offered is to put the "pack size" as a variant and to do a customization so that the sales order lines are exploded based on the pack size when sent to production. I'm not fund of customization so I'm looking for a more standard solution. I'd like some testimony from other companies who could light my path.
If you face that issue, how do you handle that?
Use of batches?
Use of containers?
Produce a random number of individually packed items just in case?
Repack when preparing the shipment?
My old post around that issue:
