MS dropping Payroll in AX D365 F&O October 2021

Just found out that MS is dropping support for Payroll in D365 F&O (and some others) in October 2021.  We are just finishing our scoping and project plan to migrate from 2012 R3 on prem to D365 and now need to find a new plan for Payroll.  Anyone else out there using AX Payroll?  Facing a similar challenge? Or are you perhaps using D365 F&O and integrating to a payroll system you really like? That would be useful to know as well.

I think it will help you get more relevant answers if you specify the size of your workforce.

All the projects I have seen in recent years were integrating with 3rd party payroll providers, most commonly ADP.
These were for work forces up to few hundreds.

We export timesheets and integrate with UltiPro currently, but are looking at other alternatives.  We would love to use Payroll in D365 F&O, but Microsoft is not willing to make the investment to complete the functionality.  It is probably 80% of the way there for us from a payroll perspective since we are a simple US non-union shop.  In addition, they aren't dealing with developing the benefits components of Talent to where it could be a full solution for us either.  I have heard horror stories with most of the ISV's associated with Payroll and integrations with D365 F&O.  At this point, we feel locked into having to use an outside provider.  It is unfortunate.

in answer to questions, and further comments.  We have approximately 3000 active employees.  about 550 salary, 600 train crew (paid by assignment, not by hour or by salary) and 1900 union workers from 15 different unions.

While we used Tyler Technologies to add the logic needed to pay our crews properly to their Tyler Insight Extensions product (TIE), Tyler announced late last year that they would not be upgrading TIE to work inside D365 payroll and we would need to upgrade ourselves, which was what we were planning to do until Microsoft's announcement.  We are running Payroll in AX 2012 R3 on premise now.   I totally recognize we will likely now need to split our payroll, with one to handle Crew and one to handle salary/union, so am happy for recommendations on either side.  Fortunately, we have the capability to maintain the current payroll system ourselves on premise, and will do so with integration to D365 F&O.  Our partner is not concerned about that as all their other customer for Dynamics AX have used other payroll systems whether on D365 or 2012 R3.

This is not surprising to me that they are going to stop supporting Payroll. Out of curiosity where did you find this out? If there is a blog or something I would like to share it with a few of my clients.

For our clients that are on D365 or planning to move to D365 we are suggesting that they use D365 for Talent with the Ceridian Payroll integration. We do have other clients that are looking at ADP and UltiPro as well as Payroll options with Talent. With ADP and UltiPro, you have to build your own integration; whereas, Ceridian is plug and play.

There are definitely pros and cons to each of these payroll solutions, and the complexity of your organization can really help drive the decision on which one is best for you. I'd be happy to connect you with someone who can talk payroll and D365 in more detail if you'd like. You can email me at Rachel.Profitt@rsmus.com.

    Thanks,

@Rachel Profitt have you seen the Ceridian add-on implemented successfully in countries outside the USA?
I'm particularly curious about Canada and EU countries.

I believe Hitachi Solutions offers a payroll product, and this is another ISV in that space that you could contact https://www.lokisys.com/products/advanced-payroll-ax/

SIS Software has a solution to handle unions, certified (Davis Bacon ) and time collection, while integrating with external payroll (Workday, UltiPro, ADP, etc.) providers.

This is certified by Microsoft and is a Preferred Solution which can be seen here on the App Source and denoted by the blue ribbon: https://appsource.microsoft.com/en-us/product/dynamics-365-for-finance-and-operations/strategic-industry-solutions.f04bcb66-cdb5-4bff-8a48-f5e07f450fa6?tab=Overview

We are also looking to migrate to 365 from 2012 in the near future.  This would drastically change some of our thought process for the migration and alleviate some customization design going forward.  Can you provide a link for where you found this information?
