Product Weight

    Hi,
We were exploring the capabilities of adding item weights to simplify our BOL process. Our thoughts were to add in the weight of an item (in released products) and when the BOL is generated when we post our packing slip, that BOL would contain the weights.

This seems to be partially working. We use Formulas as well and in those formulas, we have additional items that we'd like to be included in the gross weight. From my understanding that would work with BOM's, but when I update the weight of the items in the formula, those weights don't get added to the total weight on the BOL.

    Hi Justin,

To get the Net Weight on the Released Product updated for formula / bom items based on the weight & usage of ingredients / components you need to run a calculation from the costing version and activate from the costing version.  Activating from the released product -> Manage costs -> Item Price doesn't have the functionality to update the net weight.

Here's what the Activate form looks like when launched from the costing version, and note you can run the costing version and activate ONLY the net weight update if you're not ready to update costs / prices.

    Hi Colby,
Thank you for your response. I've tried this, however, it still doesn't appear to pick up the weights from the items in the formula when calculating the total weight of an order. It just picks up the net weight from the item card for the item on the SO.

Here's what I understand the process is:

1.) You need to make sure the ingredients all have a net weight on their released products.
2.) You need to run a calculation against the formula item, then make sure the net weight column is populated for each of the ingredients AND the level 0 / formula item.
3.) You need to activate the calculation for the formula item from the costing version and tick the "net weight" box.  This will update the Net Weight field on the released product of the formula item.
4.) Once the net weight on the released product of the formula item is correct, your Bill of Lading should be generating with a correct weight.

Let me know what I overlooked / am not understanding vs what you are looking to accomplish.

    Hi Colby,
I've done what you had outlined, but it still is not taking into account the weights of the formula items. It is just pulling the net weight of the item being sold.
