RMA posting account restrictions?

    Hi,
When we are creating a return order, or RMA, the posting account needs to be adjusted to post to the correct account. We have run into a few scenarios where the wrong account was selected.

My first question is - is there a way to set the default posting account for RMA's? My second question - is there a way to limit was accounts are available to them when they click the drop down? Currently when the drop down is selected, all posting accounts are visible.

Can you clarify what account you are referring to and where it is selected?

When returning an item (just like when selling), there are 2 posting happening at the same time: of the revenue recording, and of the inventory depletion (assuming you are dealing with inventoried items).

Can you clarify which of these posting you are trying to impact?

Here at Dynamics Resources we specialize in Dynamics 365, all versions of AX, and CRM. I ran your question by one of my experts.

Answer one: No, such movement is possible as all the return orders are (and must) be recorded as the inverse of the original movement, so if you are crediting your inventory the rule is to return it debiting it. Otherwise you will not be able to sell it again, like in the scrap movements.

Answer 2: Yes, normally this account must be even locked out so the users does not move the income account related to that customer group. As those parameters cannot be modified now. I would recommend you to isolate the accounts by user groups, so the people involved in the Sales Orders only can see the accounts destined to that purpose and not mistakenly choose another one.

I hope this helps, feel free to reach out directly to me for a more detailed discussion.

    Hi Michael,
I appreciate the feedback! Do you have any material you can share on how you would restrict accounts to specific user groups?

We don't have any material prepared, as two different topics are covered with the user groups setup and the main account configuration.
