Planned Production and Planned Purchase Order Generation

    Hello Everyone,

We recently went live on D365 Fin/Ops in February. We are a make to order Machine Manufacturer. All of us in Operations and Planning have been use to the following process for Planned Order Creation for Purchase Orders and Manufactured Orders.

Once we release a Purchase Order to cover the demand and if the confirmed date does not satisfy the upper level date we would get an exception message to Reschedule In (Advance in D365). If the date is to early  Push Out, and if no demand we would get Cancel.

The way are settings are set up in D365 if the source of demand (Purchase Order) confirmed date does not satisfy the upper level need date D365 will automatically generate another planned order which is very time consuming to the planners and buyers as they need to now look at this planned order and check to see if they have a Purchase Order already out their to cover the demand.

It's a lot more efficient if we could set up D365 to work like we are used to by managing our exception messages when system needs the source of the supply earlier, later, etc. rather than auto generate another planned order when the release order to cover the upper level demand is already created.

Anyone know of the settings that will allow our planning to work as I described?

    thanks

    Hi Ben,

In coverage settings, try setting Positive days and Negative days to the same as the Coverage time fence.

    Hi Ben,
As Guy noted, the setup of positive and negative days can have an significant impact on how MRP generates Actions and Futures messages. At a higher level of logic in the system, it is also important to understand how user defined Coverage Groups are being used regarding the set up of your item for planning (and how you have activated Actions & Futures messages for same). For instance, going to your released item >   plan > coverage > item coverage, do you have anything set up here? If yes, what is the Coverage Code being used in the Coverage Group you have structured to the item - Period, Requirement, Min/Max, or Manual?
