Master Planning by Warehouse

I'm wondering if it's possible to run Master Planning by Warehouse.

It seems like a logical step for me but I can't find a link in the setups between the two.
    Any feedback is appreciated.

    Thanks all.

Do you not have the ability to select and modify the query to add the required criteria to select the warehouses that you only want to run master scheduling on?

Also just curious why would you not want to run wide open?

If you're getting some demand and trying to get around it by running master scheduling a specific way then you could have bad item setup data.

    Hi Jon,

When you select Run for master master planning, there is a query (Select) that will allow you to set the specific warehouse for which you'd like to run planning.

As Ted has mentioned though, if this is to avoid errant suggestions of other demand you'd like to avoid from other warehouses your first step should be too solve the root cause of this before attempting to actively avoid it through the selection process.

We'll need some more details if that's the case in helping you solve that.

    Cheers,

    Simon

In Master planning you can go to Records to include filter.  Warehouse is not available but you might find a different field you can use to represent a specific warehouse.  I would think as long as all of the products you are building / purchasing are is one warehouse and not across warehouses you should be ok

It sounds like you are asking if you can build your requirements profile by warehouse instead of site.  If that is what you want, the critical setup is on your storage dimension group.  There is a field labeled, "Coverage plan by dimension".  It needs to be checked for your warehouse dimension.  If this is checked, inventory in one warehouse will not be considered as immediately available to fill demand in another warehouse.  You may define transfer relationships between the facilities, so that MRP will create planned transfers between the warehouses to move inventory to where it is needed.

You can't just check that box if you have been running with it unchecked.  One of the things it affects is the dimension ID that is used on the item coverage settings (ReqItemTable).  If the field is unchecked, and you have records in the table, the dimension ID on those records will reference an InventDim value where the site is populated and the warehouse is blank.  If you check the coverage plan setting for the warehouse, those records will no longer display on the form or be used by MRP.  You should plan how you want to transfer those settings to new records, and how you plan to delete the existing records.

Thanks Kevin. I do have that box checked at the Warehouse level.
My problem is I can't find a filter or an option to select a Warehouse. The closest I am able to find is the ability to turn off Master Planning at on the Warehouse set up.

I'm hoping I'm missing something and there is a way to select a specific warehouse when running Master Scheduling.

I appreciate all the replies so far.

    1. Open Master Scheduling
    2. Click on the Select Button
    3. From the Query Screen click / highlight the Items Icon under tables at the top.
    4. Right click on the icon items and select the 1:N
    5. Select the table "Item coverage" to be added to the tables at the top.
    6. In the lower section select the Add button to add a new section
    7. In the table section select the "Item Coverage" table.
    8. The derived table will auto populate with "Item Coverage"
    9. In the fields box select "Main Warehouse"
    10. Under criteria select the warehouse that you want to run master scheduling on.

Now even though you selected a warehouse I'm not sure how this will affect master scheduling, but you can give it a shot.

    Hi Jon,

I don't think it can be done. Master scheduling can be configured to run for all items, or some items. Anything you are doing to the Select query is just altering the list of items that Master scheduling will run on, not which warehouse will be considered.

    Hi Jon,
What is the purpose of only running for a specific warehouse? AX does allow you to plan considering all warehouses equally as far as planning for fulfilling demand as mentioned by Kevin. You can also disable planning for specific warehouses. Running MRP for only some warehouses that are all enabled for planning could actually cause planning issues as you may fulfill some demand via planned transfer orders and they would not be able to properly create if MRP ignored one of the warehouses involved in the transaction. If there a specific issue or inefficiency you are trying to resolve?

I misunderstood the question the first time I read it, but I'm going to offer one more thought.  I don't think you can do it.  You can build advanced filters that will select only items that are in a certain warehouse, but when it plans an individual item, it will plan it over all warehouses.  You could do things with forecast types or coverage groups to limit the demand to a warehouse or limit the item to being included in a warehouse run, but you would have a huge risk of partially planning your coverage, or overlaying the complete plan for an item generated by one run with an incomplete plan generated from another run.

Try indirectly leveraging coverage group and running MRP for specific coverage group.
In item coverage setup, you should have warehouse wise setup defined for this coverage group.

Thanks to everyone for your replies. I did learn from them. Ted got me excited. Then Guy brought back to I where I expected to be. I'm going with it can't be done except through manual manipulation of settings at the Warehouse Setup.

What I have is a main warehouse that we need to run MRP daily or more. Then I have other warehouse that a weekly consideration is all that's needed. Then a few others that monthly will do. It's just a peeve that when I need it run for the main warehouse the system has to go through all the products in the other warehouses that I don't need an update on.

I'll live with it. I was hoping for an easy solution.

may involve some setup but using a combination of item coverage group and warehouse and turning on coverage by warehouse in storage dimension group.
can create item coverage per item per warehouse with a specific coverage group and run MRP for just that coverage group
