Forecasting for MTO - AX2009

We have a mix of MTO and MTS items we manufacture and sell. Most of our MTO items have either 20 or 40 working day lead times.

    Question:

I do not want to have forecast for the periods within lead time to give me demand, I only want demand from sales orders; but, I'd like to get forecasted demand for periods outside the lead time so we can plan for manufacturing and materials. Is there a setup I can use to make this happen in 2009?

My demand planner does not want to 0 out the periods in his forecast as this would create too many exceptions when trying to create a forecast for 5,000+ SKU's.

Thanks in advance for any input!

    Hi David,

Have you tried to implement a Forecast reduction key on your coverage group that will reduce the forecast by 100% if the order is within the lead time period?

    Hi Kelly,
Thanks for jumping in! We actually met at Summit, I took your session and threw some hatchets.

I am going the route of using reduction keys as I agree that this is the way to go. I haven't had too much time yet to really play with it, my initial attempts were not successful. I'm going to keep testing until I figure it out.

    Thanks again for the reply.
