Customer Sales Order Movement to different customer

    Good Morning,
I am hoping to find a way to take a processed sales order, more than likely with a payment applied to it, and move it to a different customer.  Here is the scenario leading to this question:

Customer A walks in off the street and buys a part.  Since this is customer A's first time with us, we use what we call a "cash account" to quickly fulfill their order.  A week later, customer A comes back in to buy another part, making him a repeat customer, therefore qualifying them for their own account.  That account is set up so that the next time the customer comes in their orders are recorded on that account.

Our sales team would like to be able to move any orders from that "cash account" to the new established customer account.  We get a lot of one time buyers that come thru the door.  It does not make good sense to set each customer up with their own account, as we would have hundreds if not thousands of inactive accounts.

I was able to move the "money" in a simple payment journal, but that leaves room for error in manually keying descriptions, etc.  Also, moving the money does not allow sales reports to be run that would include this movement from one customer to the other.

Does anyone know of a better way to do this?

    All help is appreciated.
    Thank you
    Michelle Jones

    Hi Michelle,

It is not possible to change the posted order details, like invoice, inventory transactions, customer transactions, etc. There is a cumbersome workaround to create a credit note on the "cash account" and a new invoice on the new customer account. With a customization, it can be automated. However, this will lead to more transactions and usage of invoice numbers. I can imagine that auditors are not happy with such workaround.
Probably, you can solve it in the reporting part. Anyway, my question here: What would be the advantage for you or the customer having the first sale also recorded on this new customer?

Our sales team would like the first sale(s) on the new customer so that they have a full view of purchases for that customer.  I appreciate your feedback and I have sent your response over to our IS team.

Your missing the hidden value of the one-time customers.
Set them up as a customer, and market to them. Try to collect some form of contact info during the initial sale.
Even if it's just an email or phone, and they opt-out of getting email/calls, you can use that information to create facebook and google advertising campaigns that target them.
