Inventory Usage/Consumption Reports

    Hi,
I recently met with our team and had some discussions around Inventory usage/consumption and reporting capability in D365. They currently do this by exporting a few different reports and manually merge and manipulate the data in excel.

At a high level, they are looking to get the beginning inventory, purchases made, available inventory, ending inventory, and the usage - by item and over a specific time period.

Is there a report in D365 already that has this information? I've checked the inventory value report but this doesn't appear to have all the of the information needed. I also ran the Inventory Value Statement but that doesnt appear to have the information either

In 2012 / R3 we always pointed clients to the Inventory Value cube for this.  It looks like that's moved to the Cost Mgmt Power BI content pack, but I can't say I've played around with it enough to say that it can duplicate what we did in the cubes.

    Hi Colby,
I appreciate the response. We are looking into the content packs as a possible solution, but working through some issues with the data not populating.

    Justin,

At my prior company, we had created a custom report to track this by site. If the cubes are not an option, consider a breakout such as:

Beginning inventory + Purchases + (Transfer orders) - Ending Inventory.

If you are using anything but standard cost, ensure that you are using the proper unit cost depending on your environment.

    Hi Ian,
Thank you for the response! Did you use a 3rd party tool for creating the report or how did you go about doing that?

    Justin,

At the time, we leveraged our Microsoft Partner to create the report.

    Few takeaways:

    - Take into account transfer orders if you're using them
    - Do not use an items default unit price if you're using LIFO/FIFO/Weighted Avg., use the site/warehouse/locations specific price for that item
