Third Party Sales Tax Vendor

    We are implementing D365 this year and will be bringing on a third party sales tax processor. We have narrowed it down between Avalara and Vertex. I was wondering if anyone has either of these and what are the pros and cons of each. Thanks

    Both are very good companies and depend on the industry type and national or global requirements, if the price is key factor then explore CCH.

    Hi, we are implementing D365 this year as well.  We are going with Avalara's AvaTax.  We've been using on our website for several years now and it has proven to be very accurate.  Now, with the changes to sales tax for online retailers, we will need to collect and report taxes in many more states.  Adding those states, and determining the tax implications of each product is very easily accomplished by AvaTax.  We will also be using them to file the taxes for us.
    We did explore CCH and they seem very solid as well.  We just stuck with Avalara due to the existing relationship with had with them.

    We have been using Avalara for roughly 5 years.  First, with Dynamics SL and now with Dynamics 365.  We have been very satisfied with the calculation and reporting aspects of the product.  Where we have found Avalara sorely lacking is customer support.  Have them demonstrate how to enter a ticket on their website.  You will discover that that is about all you can do.  You cannot track the status of the request once it is created, nor can you edit it with additional information.  Whenever we enter a ticket, Urgent or otherwise, it will be ignored until I contact our account rep to escalate it.  This will usually result in the ticket getting assigned, but then we have to constantly chase for a status until the problem is addressed.

    We used Avalara for a couple of years with AX 2012 - worked ok, only had a few issues, which eventually were resolved. But I agree that their support isn't as good as expected.

    Then we've been using CCH for a few years. There have been more issues with it and their support isn't as good as Avalara's. Right now, they can't even find a record of what we purchased from them.
