D365 Advanced warehouse location blocking

    Hello all,

Do anyone know of a way to stop any inventory from going into or out of a location in advanced warehousing?

We have a set of locations that need to be blocked off temporarily. While we can change the location type so that these are not looked at by location directives, there doesn't seem to be anything we can find to stop any inventory going in or out, e.g. someone could adjust a qty in or direct move.

The blocking causes don't work in the advanced warehouse module, unless something has changed since I last tested.

    Thanks in advance,
    Kirk

    Kirk,
If all of your location directives are using Zone's to determine which locations to use then try creating a new Zone called "Blocked" and re-assign your location to this new zone, repair you data and then reassign them back.

Thanks for the suggestion, Jeff. We are looking at that as well. I'm hoping there is a more direct blocking capability that doesn't allow anything in or out, but not sure that there is one.

    Hi Kirk,

Have you tried renaming the location?  On the location record you can go to Options > Record Info > Rename.  Could give it a new name that doesn't match the location barcode label so it would in effect prevent transactions (assuming location directives aren't looking at this location).

Note that renaming a location is a time consuming task, so please test in a test environment first if interested in this option.

Interesting thought, Paul - thanks! I hadn't tried that and would consider it if this were only a handful of locations.

In ourcase, we're talking a couple hundred locations, which makes this less than ideal.

There is a "Microsoft Idea" submitted about this.  Please add your vote.

Note: I don't know how seriously Microsoft takes the ideas that are on here.  Someday I would like it if Microsoft gave a webinar on AXUG about this site.

Vote added, thanks Daniel. I have submitted some and voted on others myself in the past, but can't say that I've ever seen any results or that I check the site regularly for new ideas I would vote for. It would take a lot of lobbying for your own idea to accumulate enough votes for anyone to pay attention to it, I think.
