  • 1.  Sales Order Reservations with Warehouse Management

    Hello All,

We're testing a few scenarios around sales order processing with advanced warehousing functionality and I noticed some interesting behavior that I was wondering if anyone might have an explanation for.

We have the AR module parameter value set to not automatically reserve on sales orders, and both on SO/Item Model Group these are set to not auto-reserve. If the user adds an item and attempts to select "Release to Warehouse" prior to reservation, we get the expected error "No new sales lines have been released to the warehouse for sales order #####". However, if the item has an item model group where "Physical negative inventory" is marked to Yes, then I noticed that it goes ahead and creates (and in our case processes) the wave, doing the reservation step automatically. This isn't causing an issue but I was curious if anyone had seen this behavior before and knew why it might do that.

    Regards,
    Joseph

    HI Joseph,

Enabling the negative physical inventory allows the systems to issue an item even if it's not on stock. Reservations only work for an available physical quantity, and therefor the reservation rule doesn't always apply to item groups that have negative physical inventory enabled, as it would simply disable the purpose of the negative physical inventory entirely.

It works this way, because both item groups don't necessarily have to use the advanced warehouse enabled.

So if it's an advanced warehouse, the auto-reserve is taken out of the equation, and it indeed continues the wave and create a work if there's enough available on-hand.
