AX2009 to D365 F&O - Access

We are looking to migrate from AX2009 (on-site) to D365 F&O (in cloud) in the near future and are getting our ducks in a row. Originally, I was told that D365 does not support Microsoft Access. Is this true? Access is huge for our Finance guys. I ran into this article that states you can link Access and D365:

    https://support.office.com/en-us/article/link-to-or-import-data-from-dynamics-365-636079c1-9fc3-4fca-8410-6596d62223da

Anyone currently link those, if it is possible?

Can Access get D365 data?  Yes, through data entities / OData connections.  However you need to make sure the data entities exist that have the data your finance users want.  Do they currently have a direct ODBC connection to tables in your AX2009 environment?  That wont be possible with D365.

This might be a good time to ask what is the business problem they are trying to solve with Access and see if there is functionality in the base application that will solve that problem.

    Hi Stephanie,

I do second on the comments from Colby. It would be possible to review the current way of working. You can export transactional data into an Azure Data Lake in your own subscription which would allow you to create PowerBI reports or even transport it to Access.
