    Good day,

Kindly advise if there is a report within AX that details open sales orders with an address that is no longer effective.
What we would like to provide, is a report that can easily be generated to check which sales orders need to be corrected with the below error message.

The preference is that this report not be extracted from the AOT.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
To my knowledge there is no such standard report available.
In the address section of your customer or in the global address book one can identify the expiration date of a specific address.
This is, however, not a field that you can filter and search for meaning that you have to create / build something yourself.
    Best regards,
    Ludwig

Perhaps I'm mistaken, but I'm under the impression that that message is based on third party add-on for sales tax. I don't think we ever saw that until we implemented a third party solution. We've had 2 different ones and their rules vary a bit for what you might have on different lines of the address when they are trying to validate it based on the zip/postal code.

    Erica,
Which version of AX are on? We have the same issue when someone updates a delivery address or if we run our third party tax software.
I have a SQL for AX 2012 R3 that might work for you.
    Thanks,

    Just FYI -
The root cause of this issue is that the transaction has a link via recid to logisticspostaladdress table, and that table is a date-effective table. If the transaction is still "open" it will check the effective dates and warn you if they are out of date.

The reason this happens with third-party tools, such as tax software, is they have not nailed down their use cases and made appropriate code & process fixes for them.
From a coding angle, a programmer can update the address without triggering a date-effective change - but they need to be sure that works from a process perspective. This requires a programmer to be aware of what has happened at the time the code has run, and what kind of repair they are doing to the address. For example, if the "repair" is to just add the 4 digit zip extension, you may want to add that without changing the date effective dates. But if your changing the street, you probably do want an effective date change - unless it's very early in the original save of the address, before it's been used downstream...

As far as a report - I don't know of any.
A sql statement for a report might look something like this:
select distinct salesid from salesline inner join logisticspostaladdress on (salesline.deliveryaddress = logisticspostaladdress.recid)
    where logisticspostaladdress.validto < getdate() or logisticspostaladdress.validfrom > getdate()
*SQL is from memory, may have some typos....

I am not aware of such a report.  You will get this message when a user updates a customer address and the address on the order is not updated.  If you reselect the new address on the order, the message will go away.

    Hello All,

I also have a question pertaining to this.  I have created a query over the customer invoice lines table so I could show sales by state and country.  I was getting all kinds of missing data missing data on my report.  What I found was that all the missing invoice lines data was caused by the address no longer being effective.

Any ideas on how to get around this so that my report won't be incomplete?

    Thanks,

    Sam

    Give this blog a read:
Date Effective Data Sources for Forms

It applies mostly to forms, but you can check the properties around the report datasources as well. If the report is being fed from a DP class, you may need to include a clause in your x++ select statement to get all the rows from the logisticspostaladdress table. (By default it will only join in currently effective rows)

This TechNet article describes the query implications:
Effects of Valid Time State Tables on Read and Write Operations

This is something that is similar to a project we are working on. I'm thinking that if the invoice was already processed, you wouldn't want to update the address on it. My question is, what is the appropriate way to update addresses so the historical data isn't lost? The primary business address may change over time as may other types of addresses. How can you keep your addresses correctly flagged and not update transactions for older addresses?

    thanks,Carol

Seems the topic is drifting - may want to pose similar questions on a separate thread....

But - for the question of updating tables with valid date/time stamps, there are two modes. Thinking thru which to use for any particular purpose can get complicated quickly....

If you change the customer's address, all open orders will get a yellow bar on them indicating the order's address is out of date and needs to be re-selected. This can be annoying when done on a customer with many open orders - to downright brutal if a change occurs due to a batch job....
Orders with this yellow bar may refuse to process thru the warehouse steps....

However, if you use the code mechanism to bypass the creation of the historical record, you can run into other problems - because your literally changing history. You may have shipped under one address, then make a correction change via code, and now users looking at the posted packing slip/invoice may see the updated address.
