We used AX4.0 from 2008 through 2017 and have had AX2012 R3 since then. It has always been Finance that has performed these tasks. I wouldn't know any other department that would have this ability under the security permissions. Well with the exception of the Sys Admin.

Finance does the inv recalc, specifically the cost accountants in finance.  We do the recalc as part of our monthly close checklist, and finance is in charge of executing that checklist.  The task is done by the people responsible for it.
And as mentioned in the previous response, they already have permissions in this area.
Finance is the best qualified and most appropriate group in my company.

D365FO, and it landed with the finance department.
I am actually a bit concerned about that because the accountants do not know much about inventory functionality in D365, and cannot really interpret and act on the warning/error messages given by the inventory closing process.

I wonder how other companies deal with errors/warning.
