D365 Finance & Operations and Dynamics AX Forum

We are about to go live on D365 F&O and want to put our AX 2009 environment in a "read only" state so that folks can still access it for historical look-ups but not change any data...is there a way to accomplish that without traversing the permissions tree for each role and changing all active nodes in the tree to "View" (we don't want to change any of the things users can ACCESS in their AX roles, but we do want to make everything they access read only).

Jeff,

If you want to keep the role access the same except change everything to Read access, then the only answer is to do that process manually. I can not think of a way to automate the process unless you wanted to write custom code to do so.

Could you change the read only access on the SQL database? Or would that not work. We will want to do the same when we go live with 365.

We did a reimp of AX 2009 a few years back and wanted to keep the old database as read only for our users, without changing their access level.  The way we accomplished it, was by adding read only triggers on the tables in SQL.

Beth,

We still want to run SSRS reports and utilize document management in this "read only" environment - did putting those table triggers in place affect any of those pieces?!?!?  We don't have a SQL DBA on staff so we're shooting a little in the dark on this one.
