Manufactured batch planning

    Hi all! We are currently running on AX2009 and we have an issue I can't seem to figure out.

    I'll see if I can make this make sense...

    We have planned productions for a finished good, a filled intermediate, and a bulk goop. We will consume the entire bulk goop into the Filled intermediate which is then packed into the finished good.

    Finished good and filled intermediate SOQ = standard yield for the batch

    Issue comes in the MRP nets out the requirements for the bulk; in the filling process we have scrap factors built into the BoM, this will them create a planned prod order to cover the filling, but it also creates a second planned order which is to cover the scrap factor. We do not manufacture this second bulk, we stick with the yield from batch #1.

    Are there any set-ups, besides removing the scrap factor in the BoM, that will ​tell AX not to plan that second unneeded bulk?

    David,

    Do you have any default order settings setup on the bulk item like a maximum order size?  This could cause what you're seeing.

      Yes, in most cases our max qtys are set up. Our problem shows up when our max batch size is 450 kg, but the actual requirements come in as 453 kg. It s planning a second, unneeded batch to cover the 3 kg. We're trying to figure out how to get AX to not schedule that second batch.

    Dave,

    With that setup there's no way to not get it to plan the second batch.  Is the 450 kg the maximum mixer size?  If so do you have standard yield for the intermediate filled item where you could set up the maximum on that part to only ever consume 450 kg?  That could be one answer is to set up the max on the intermediate to make it so you never need more than 450 kg.

    Yes, the 450 would be our maximum. We have considered either reducing the standard order qty on the intermediate, or removing the scrap rates; neither ideal since it changes the cost of the product.

    But, it does look like one of these options will end up being our solution.

    Is that because the Finished item is standard costed, and you need the scrap to go in to the Cost rollup?
