  • 1.  Automatic creation of Sub-Contract Purchase Orders

    Posted Nov 23, 2021 06:07 AM

Hopefully a simple one but I cannot find the solution. I have configured our AX2012 R3 application so that a Sub-Con PO is automatically created for any work that goes out to a sub contractor.

The challenge is that at the moment the PO is being created at the point the Works Order is being started e.g Picking List is printed off. We would rather that the PO was created when the Stores team Post the picking list as that is when the raw materials are moved from Stores to the shopfloor.

To explain alittle more, we make and assemble parts that may not be delivered until 3 to 6 months after the Works Order has been created and therefor the SubCon work may not be needed for 2 or 3 months time. It would be better if the PO was created at time of Picking List being posted then when the Works Order is generated and started.

Hope this makes sense but if you need more information then let me know.

Hi Fraser, posting assumes consumption so waiting until that time may not be suitable/realistic. How did you team end up fulfilling this need? One option would be to stagger the picking lists based on Flushing principle/operations that the BOM line is tied to. If you start production orders, you can set which Operations are started and ensure you only create picking lists for operations tied to a subcon op, for example. That way you could potentially delay PO creation of the operation/BOM  line. However, this may not feasible and I would have to test to make absolutely sure as the PO creation technically happens as early as the Estimation stage of the work order based on BOM line and route setup. Even with MRP, you can see Derived Planned POs for items that are setup for subcontracting that automatically turn into POs if the upper level Planned production order is firmed.
