Hi all,
I appreciate any help you can give me on the cycle count functionality for Dynamics 365.  Here is my dilemma.  I have Planned Cycle Counting and Spot Cycle Counting set up they way it is supposed to, and it works on the mobile device, however,  when we do a cycle count of an item in a specific location, it is requiring us to do cycle counts of ALL items in that location.

Here is an example.  We want to spot cycle count an item that is in our Picking location.  The picking location has over 500 unique items in it.  We only want to do a count on one of them.  When we select the item we want to count, it is setting all of the other items as if we counted zero.  I can see this when we go to review the cycle count to approve or reject.  We obviously don't want to have to go and reject all of those items in the picking location that we didn't really count.

Is there a way or settings that would allow us to only count one specific item in a location without requiring a count of all of the items in that location?

I appreciate any help and insight on this.

Hi Lori,
I know this was originally a gap in the cycle counting functionality and MS had plans to release a hotfix for the Spring release but I'm not sure if that has been released yet.

Hi Lori, 

The process you described of counting all items in the location is the standard cycle count functionality to my knowledge.  The cycle counting logic is based on counting all items in a location.  I am not aware of another way to do this, outside of using inventory count journals which of course does not support the mobile device.  

If you wanted to explore inventory count journals a bit more, there is a PowerApp option to execute those counts.  Check this out - Scenario 3: Inventory Counting Assistant

Great suggestion Michael!  Just confirmed that works as advertised.  Was able to create cycle count work for specific items in a location.

Yes, thanks Michael and Paul. I was able to do so as well. One more question, is there a way to randomly count some items in a location without predefining the actual items being count (i.e. like spot counting, but not bring back all of the items in a location, just the ones the user has counted)?

I am not aware of a way to spot count without counting the entire location.  You could perhaps have a ad-hoc cycle count plan that would be setup to do partials, as mentioned above, and update that plan based on what you intend to count.  I know this is not an ideal solution but perhaps a workaround option before pursuing a mod.
