John, so are you basically looking for the Material availability checkbox made available in D365 at the Production orders to Release level, but you want at the planned order level?

I think the challenge there is a planned order is not committed and may never be firmed so do you want to consider it reserving components? So the expectation of how it works may change for those using Finite capacity and Finite material than for those who are not. And also how reservations play a role in this. We have done mods on production orders for this for some clients, but not planned orders. . I.e. if I have 10 planned orders, but I have on-hand of components to only fulfill 5, which 5 get the green checkmark? The earliest? The ones marked approved? etc.

What we are hoping for is the ability to easily see which planned orders have the needed components from the grid view. Maybe a green checkbox or something similar. We created an idea on the Microsoft website. Please vote for it here. Ability to determine material availability from the planned production orders form · Microsoft Ideas

Ability to determine material availability from the planned production orders form · Microsoft Ideas |
When a production planner is choosing which planned production orders they should firm they need the ability to see if material is a available at that point. Production orders that are firmed that don't have the material will later have to manually be rescheduled and that is a waste of the planners time. |

Has anyone come up with a modification that will show if materials are available when evaluating planned production orders? We would like to ensure that all materials are available prior to firming the production order. Currently one can look at futures days but that doesn't tell the story if there is enough material because it does not allow use of safety stock and will give a futures date even if there is enough component material on hand. I am also aware of the newer functionality that shows if material is available from a firmed production order and that does not meet our needs as we want to know if the material is there when firming.
