I'm in the middle of one, a startup with multiple LEs, Canada, USA and ROW, manu/distributor. Plan for first phase is 99% out-of-box and utilizing MS's latest data management concepts, especially wrt shared data entities between D365 Operations and D365 Sales. Happy to share info, call me any time!

We went live in Oct, 2017 on financials, procurement, supply chain and enterprise asset management across two international sites, approximately 300 users, Windows 7 and 10 operating systems, 10GB fiber Internet connection.

We have had numerous issues around platform stability and performance. Most of the stability issues were resolved within 2 months. Performance is another matter.

If you would like more details, please feel free to contact me directly.

    Hi Jonathon,

We are in the middle of implementing D365 for Operations. We have been working with a partner and a couple of ISV's to get some customizations, EDI and Warehouse mobility completed. Our company is global & vertical so we have different versions of AX around the world but everyone will eventually go to D365. You can call me if you have any questions.

    Hi Jonathon,

Are you doing a new install or are you moving from a prior version of AX?

    Hi All,

I've noticed that there is a nice amount of people on this thread. I am one of the D365 SIG leaders and if this is a subject that everyone would like to hear more about please send a message to Julie.deutz@@dynamiccommunities.com and she can set up a virtual, open-mic roundtable to discuss current questions and concerns regarding D365.

We have a number of other ERPs, and have been working actively toward switching to Dynamics AX (currently our top Microsoft installation is AX2012R3).  However, we are looking at doing a completely new installation of D365FO for a recent acquisition, as a training exercise.  However, as we all know very well... plain vanilla is just a dream.

One of my concerns is reviewing and moving pieces of code, rather than blanketly accepting all of the strange customizations that we may have done in the past.  Considering a single business process change may cover multiple methods/functions, how hard is it to see and accept just one structured change over another?  What if I just want financials for end-of-month and chart of accounts, but not manufacturing kanban changes?

An aside to that:  has anyone attempted to do the data conversion to move in a secondary legal entity, after the first was up and running live?  Most of the LCS tools seem to be concentrated on "one company, one environment, one process, then locked".  Whereas we are looking at moving several completely separate AX2012 and AX2009 environments into the D365 structure eventually.

To respond to your question about a second legal entity, Microsoft does lock it down.  The only option after you have a production environment is to create a series of data packages; however, adding upgraded data is not something that I've heard of and likely not a scenario that's been well-documented.  A similar scenario that we did run into was doing a phased implementation, where Microsoft recommends the same thing, but that is all setup data versus transactions.

Because that is really not realistic, I would recommend talking to your partner and connecting with Microsoft's FastTrack or other team to get recommendations and understand what is technically possible.  You may have to do it all on a non-production environment and then go to the production environment when it's all done.

@Joseph Anderson we went live with 1 LE in 2018, after data migration.
Then 4 months later we did more data migrating into a new legal entity, and went live with it.
then 2 months later did more data migration into the 3rd legal entity and went live with it.

We used DMF to upload migrating data and had no major issues of migrating data into a "live" D365 instance.
A couple of issues/considerations to make:

I am not sure what @Shirley Adams means by data being locked - I don't think we had issues with using DMF in a production environment, but this might refer to another method of uploading migrated data?

1- performance: some large data migration can slow down the system for existing users - we had to schedule around that.
    2. security: we had to have consultants having access, and configuring in production environment directly - something that is not best practice from data security point of view.
    3. More difficult to back out of incorrect upload - you cannot simply delete "everything" from the table
    4. there is always the risk of doing something wrong and corrupting. a data table.

At this point there are quite a few companies who are implemented or who has gone live with D365.
I think you your research would benefit if you focus on companies from similar industry or at least that implemented similar modules to what you are planning to, and  that are doing specific type of project (i.e. upgrade from a previous version vs. fresh implementation)
