MRP Scenario

Can D365 F&O handle this scenario for MRP or point me in the right direction as to what to review for settings?

    Scenario:

    Background

    • Item FG1 is the finished good item
    • Items RM1 and RM2 are the raw materials
    • To make 1 FG1 item, you need 1 RM1 and 1 RM2
    • There is currently no inventory on hand for any of these items
    • Assume there are no defined lead times on any items
    • Assume that a production order for FG1 can be made in the same day if raw materials are available to make it

Today is December 23, 2020 and I get a sales order. Sales order comes in for 1 FG item. Delivery Date by customer requested is Jan 1, 2021.

I already have a purchase order created for a vendor for items 1000 quantities of RM1 and 1000 quantities of RM2. The vendor said that they won't be able to ship to me until March 1, 2021. **NOTE, I cannot get this product elsewhere.

    ISSUE:

When I run MRP, it keeps providing me suggested new planned purchase orders to create in order to satisfy the demand for the FG1. Since I already have a PO out there and I cannot get it anywhere else, I do not want these suggested planned purchase orders. Instead, I want MRP to see that the PO is out there and scheduled confirmed for March 1, 2021 so that my planned production order could not even start until March 1, 2021 (delayed) based on not having the materials available. I should not see any additional planned purchase orders and my planned production order should be delayed in MRP results.

    Thanks for any guidance!

After some research, I was able to figure this out by utilizing coverage groups.
