InventSerial table

In one of our companies the InventSerial table is not being populated when an item is receipted or reported as finished in production.  We have it setup to auto generate a serial number.  At the time of PO receipt we use Update registrations to generate the serial number(s) for the receipt.  Likewise before production is started, we use Update registrations to assign the serial numbers for production.  In a different company I can do a PO receipt and register the serial numbers and the serial number populates the table.  I have checked parameters and can not find an explanation.  Any thoughts?

    Hi Mark,

I am assuming that you have check the setup on the item including assignment of the required tracking number group with serial number enabled and serial number group is configured to auto create serial numbers?

Can you please check the inventory transactions linked to the PO. Does it show the serial numbers?

    Hi Mark

In my experience, F&O will only populate the serial number table automatically if Serial Number Control is enabled on the Tracking dimension group.

My experience agrees with Guy's even in AX2012.   That table is only used when Serial Number Control is active.   In AX2012 I wrote an X++ to populate the table to assist with items that we have switched to a Serial Number Controlled Tracking Dimension group once they have existing transactions.

I think this is a bug but I'm sure Microsoft would tell you it's working as designed,  its just a less than ideal design.

We have one of our companies where the table is updated as expected but then one of our companies does not.  They are both setup the same.  Inventory transactions show the serial number(s) involved. Attached are screen shots.

Corey, we did change the Tracking dimension group for the items to a group that does not have the Serial number control checkbox because we can have multiple quantities with the same serial number.

This is a very unique situation as what you have shared Mark, different results in two different companies with the same setup.

To autopopulate the serial number table with the unique serial number, you have to use the serial number control and use per qty field on the number group.

If you are not using the serial number control and using the auto generation of the serial number, it will generate the number in the transaction table but not in the serial number table. You have to make use of the manual allocation of the serial number in the serial number table.

Have you checked that no manual allocation is being done in the other company becuase this setup does not stop you from doing manual allocations.
