Anyone use Red Maple to process credit cards?

I'm evaluating Red Maple's "Advanced Credit Cards" product as part of our upgrade to R3.  If you use this product, please share your experience with the user group to let us know how it is going.  I'm specifically curious about these questions:

    • Why did you decide to use Red Maple?
    • How is their technical support?  Are they competent, trustworthy, and helpful?
    • What is the best feature about the Advanced Credit Cards?
    • Is there anything about it that you dislike?
    • Knowing what you know now, would you still choose Red Maple?
    • Do you feel the Advanced Credit Cards product is a good value for the price?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts or advice.

    Daniel;
We implemented Red Maple in 2018, on 2012R3 CU9-ish.  We replaced a system that was build around AX's built in payment services engine.  I'll do my best to answer your questions.
Why did you decide to use Red Maple?
Realistically, they were the only option available at the time that met our needs.  We needed to be able to support on-account payments, and our RMA process.  Neither of which were available/mature enough with the competitors.

How is their technical support?  Are they competent, trustworthy, and helpful?
Generally they are pretty good.  We've had situations where their response (both time and quality) were top-notch, and we've had situations where we felt their response was inadequate.  During our implementation, which was a bit rocky, we eventually got direct access to one of their developers who was extremely competent, patient, and helpful.

What is the best feature about the Advanced Credit Cards?
Two things that have saved us a bunch of time: The integration with payment journals/invoice settlement.  Upon invoice generation (provided this is where you choose to capture) a payment journal is automatically created and the invoice is settled against it.  All that finance needs to do is review and post the journal.  The biggest time-saver we had is the on-account payments.  If a customer wants to settle a net30 type invoice with a card payment it is handled directly in a payment journal, the whole process takes less than a minute.

Is there anything about it that you dislike?
Some of this should be taken with a grain of salt, as some of the areas we struggled with (and continue to struggle with) are places where we have customized AX.
As I mentioned before, our implementation was rocky.  We ran into a couple of "show stopper" bugs that significantly delayed our process.  Most of them were resolved, but they involved hours on the phone with the Red Maple developer, our developer, and I on a conference call debugging and patching their code.  Again, some of this was to work around our mods, some of this was due to bugs in their code.

Our biggest disappointment with Red Maple is around the release to warehouse process.  One of the biggest selling points for us was Red Maple's claim to be able to prevent material from being released to the warehouse if there was not a sufficient authorization to cover the material being released.  We were never able to get this part to work, and ended up going live with a workaround that really only partially meets our needs.

Knowing what you know now, would you still choose Red Maple?
If I were to start another credit card implementation project I would definitely consider them.  I'd be lying if I said there weren't days where we were ready to tear it all out and start from scratch, but that tends to happen with any project like this.  There isn't anything about their product or people that would cause me to completely discount them.

Do you feel the Advanced Credit Cards product is a good value for the price?
I can't speak to this one, I don't even recall what this cost.  I know we spent a lot of extra time to get it to work.

Feel free to reach out directly if you want to know more.

Check out CenPOS/Elavon, They have integrated their functionality with AX 2012, so that their webpage is called when processing the transaction.  Years ago, as a consultant, I had a client implement Red Maple, which was a little bit of a struggle to say the least.  Implemented CenPOS last year, and the roll out to our 14 locations was a nonevent, a few little bumps but nothing insurmountable  .  Their support was excellent, and they even participated in our weekly status calls during the roll out to make it a smooth transition.  The best part is that with CenPOS, our credit card processing fees decreased because their platform allowed us to take advantage Tier 2 and 3 pricing.

    Thank you Nobuko:)

Here's some additional questions you may want to consider:
    1. How will solution help with GDPR compliance?
    2. Is the solution compliant with Unscheduled Credential On File authorization and receipt requirements?; For which processors/ acquirers?
    3. If ANY cardholder data will be key-entered, how will it impact PCI scope?

If you have questions about any of above, feel free to PM me.

I have implemented Red Maple as a consultant at a client with AX2009 and now we are implementing at my company with D365 F&O.  Here at TAP, we looked at every possible solution except Red Maple, because we were told they were too small.  None of the solutions were 100% fit and required numerous customizations.  We spent several months negotiating with CenPOS / Elavon and were about to sign when we finally looked at Red Maple. For numerous reasons, most notably they had the best fit to our requirements, we ended up going with Red Maple.  Adam Pascoe does a great job describing some of the ups and downs and my experience has been similar, but overall very good with Red Maple.  Feel free to contact me directly for more information.  I would recommend them.

We also implemented Red Maple when the built in MS solution was phased out. Our environment is 2012 R2. I agree with Adam on just about all points. It took a bit of work to get it rolling with our Partner, but seems to be good once it is set in place. We looked at RM and one other (sorry, don't remember which one) and decided on RM because it seemed that was the go to at the time. In addition, our Partner recommended RM. Our timeline was short and we had it up and running before the MS solution expired.

    Daniel,
I'm not familiar with this specific RM product. However, my experience with Red Maple comes from my client's perspective. They purchased RM for their D365 implementation. Due to the lack of response from Red Maple and slowness to make much progress on the project, they eventually abandoned RM in favor of SK Global's Credit Card Advantage module (and other AR/AP/Bank modules). I've worked with SK Global as a D365 ISV for several projects and they have done a great job. SK Global has partnered with Nodus to provide enhanced functionality in Credit Card Advantage while keeping transactions PCI compliant.

I recommend looking into SK Global to compare with the functionality available in Red Maple.
