Master Planning Order

I am looking for suggestions on how to educate a new master planner in D365FO.  They come from a highly customized SAP solution and our organization has a firm commitment to keep standard functionality or "out of the box" settings wherever possible.

The challenge is that the master planner wants to constantly ignore MRP and schedule production orders out of sequence.  These orders have multiple sub assemblies and this is adding to the confusion and frustration when attempting to manually reschedule the planned orders.  What would be the best way for a Master Planner to re-arrange a multiple level planned production order and then firm it to the schedule?

    Hi Erik,
Are your subassemblies setup as pegged supply BOM line types where they are made in line with the finished good? Or are they item so if they are already on-hand, you just pick the subassembly to the FG rather than make it to order?

For make to order sub-assemblies that are "References" on your FG work order, when you reschedule an order, you just make sure you check the "Schedule references" checkbox so that any subassemblies are also updated correctly:

If you're going to ignore the output and manually schedule orders, MRP will only get worse. I would suggest getting your partner or a third party to do some educational training on Master planning in Dynamics as it can differ pretty greatly from other ERP systems from a terminology standpoint. We've done a couple webinar series on the topics that are available for download here on AXUG. You can check out the webinars "Master planning: Unplugged" here which was a 7 part, 1 hr each webinar series on various Master planning  topics in D365FO.
