BOM 'child' that's informational

Is it possible to add a 'child' to a BOM that is just for information? For example, we need to specify a particular drawing of our wiring diagram. We can give it a line number but quantity would be zero. I've been told that a zero quantity causes problems when the BOM is costed. I've heard that in our previous ERP system, it was possible to add a component as textual. Any ideas as to what we can do in D365 to accomplish this? Thanks for the help.

    Hi Claudia,
You would want to setup your drawings as service items with an Item model group that has the "Stocked product" flag checked. The Item model group setting allows you to enter the drawing as a BOM line and it being a service item ensures it is not actually stocked or tracked in inventory. You can leave the qty as 1 and set the Flushing principle to FINISH so it automatically posts consumption of the "service" and you don;t have to worry about users having to systematically  pick something that is not really inventoried.
