I'm new to the Quality portion of AX, however, our quality dept does use it on a limited basis.  I've been tasked with finding out the following information.

I'm assuming the questions below are all base functionality.  Where would be a good place to start learning about this?  Any information would be appreciated.  Thanks, Sam

        1. How do we collect and retain data?
        2. How do we use quality with production?
        3. How can the system queue us on next steps when the part has a quality requirement

Technet is usually a good place to start to get an overview of the 2 main pieces; quality orders and quality associations. And also figure out the forms:

About tests and quality orders [AX 2012]

About tests and quality orders [AX 2012]
Additional steps include the definition of sampling plans and the assignment of tests to a test group, together with the quality specifications, AQL, test sequence, and validity dates for each test in the test group. The automatic generation of quality orders requires an additional step to define the quality associations about the events and conditions in each business process that will trigger a quality order.

    In terms of your questions

    1. How do we collect and retain data?

Quality orders will be referenced to the order where it generated from IE. PRODO1234.

Quality orders can be queried from the original order from the action tab (prod order pane, purchase order pane) or from the inventory inquiries.

All testing data is stored on within the quality order.

2.How do we use quality with production?

Quality associations can be set up with production route operations, or at report as finished to trigger quality orders.

    3. How can the system queue us on next steps when the part has a quality requirement

Quality associations can be set before or after defined events (before or after receipt), and can also be set to prevent events (prevent production END, or invoice)
