Manufacturing Experience/References Needed !!!

We are looking for a couple of manufacturing based users of D365 who would be willing to share their experience with us!

First, a little bit about HBD.  We have 3 main manufacturing groups; rubber products, power transmission and precision components, with roughly a dozen plants all within the continental US.  Each of these plants were once independent and each runs a unique ERP software.  We are implementing D365 at each one individually and sticking to a "vanilla out-of-the-box solution" as much as possible.  Not that we are necessarily opposed to ISV options, but we are avoiding custom code.

Our implementation team is small but mighty and each plant brings new challenges such as labor tracking & trace-ability nuances, incorporation of drawings & work instructions, along with continued training & improvement at locations already live on D365, etc, etc, etc.  While we are busy wading through these puzzles, our leadership team has questions about how other manufacturing companies are handling some of these same issues.

Regardless of your stage of implementation, please let me know if you'd be willing to set up a call or an in person meeting to bounce around some ideas and compare what's working vs what challenges we're both facing.

Sorry for the delayed reply.  Nord-Lock Group is in a similar situation.  The global group is comprised of three main product divisions, with five manufacturing sites, and over ten sales offices (and growing).  When purchased, each product division is/was running a unique ERP system.  We are now in the process of unifying all divisions, sites, and sales offices into D365FO and D365Sales/CRM.  It is a long, rough road.

So far we have fully implemented D365FO at our Pittsburgh site, part of the Tensioning division and North American Sales office.  This was completed in January 2018, after a three month roll-out plan.  We are currently in the middle of two additional manufacturing/sales sites, in Walsall, UK and St. Gallenkappel, CH.  Walsall is scheduled for go-live in April 2020, and St. Gallenkappel in November 2020.  We are also starting our Sales-only office rollouts with our office near Madrid, scheduled for completion Q2 2020.

As you have observed so far, each site and product division brings their own hurdles.  However, we have found that we are more similar than originally thought.  Due to the speed we are planning our rollouts, and our small core implementation team, we are also trying to stick to 'vanilla' Dynamics.

Feel free to contact me directly with questions, tips, or a shoulder to cry on!

Just saw this today.  Ludowici will be implementing manufacturing in 2020.  We have a lot of it built in our sandbox but a ways to go.

Feel free to contact me any time

    Hi Heather ~

    Thanks for responding!

I'm copying Mary Sparks, our program manager, and Liddy Heath, our VP of IT so they have your contact information as well.

It sounds like you are in a similar dynamic.  Are you using any ISV solutions?  What about storage of drawings and work instructions associated with items and BOMs?

I'm sure we'll be reaching out with a ton more questions.

    Thanks ~

We are using two main ISV programs right now.

Formpipe's Lasernet for our external documents.  We find it easier to work with than SSRS.

Bluestar's CAD/ERP Link module for passing data and drawings between our Autodesk Inventor and Vault.

We have set up storage locations in Sharepoint for the storage of our attachments, such as work instructions, customer drawings, purchase orders, etc.

We have had to use outside consultants for some financial setup and minor customizations in some of the other countries, especially in Asia.

    Best regards,
    Heather Hayward
