Microsoft has introduced a new approach to upgrade with the Introduction to Dynamics AX 2012. In previous versions, all upgrade tasks were carried out on a single production system. The new model utilizes a source-to-target model to minimize downtime for the production database during the data migration.

We'll focus on the steps to plan an upgrade project, install and configure the hardware, the steps of successfully upgrading modifications, and a walkthrough of the data migration process by using a data migration walkthrough from AX 4.0 to Dynamics AX 2012.
