Board of Advisors...Dynamics AX USERS just like You!

Pattie Wurm, IT Project Manager, Kapstone Paper & Packaging Corporation

Number of licensed AX users within your company? Around 100
What's Your History with Dynamics AX? I've been working with AX for 5 years
What version of AX are you on? AX 2009
When are you planning on upgrading (if applicable)? This March we are upgrading to AX 2012 R3
What encouraged you to become involved in AXUG and what do you enjoy most? I joined AXUG to learn all that I can about Dynamics AX and to do that I knew I needed to get involved, not only with being on the board but to attend and help out at the AXUG Summit Events. I’ve learned so much in the 4 years that I’ve been supporting AXUG, and believe me there is so much about Dynamics AX to learn, it’s a never ending story. I’ve never ask a question that someone somewhere hasn’t been able to answer, and help find a solution to the problems that I’ve reached out for. Joining AXUG, and being on the board has been the best adventure for me on my quest for gaining the knowledge needed for my support of Dynamics AX.

What's Your History with Dynamics AX? We have been undergoing a phased implementation of AX, including:

  • Accouting offices in August 2010
  • 20 of 21 branch locations in September 2011
  • Integrated our website with AX to support online shopping, pricing, and product catalog browsing in December 2013
  • Final branch location scheduled to be complete by May 2014

What version of AX are you on? AX 2009
When are you planning on upgrading (if applicable)? I have no plans to upgrade to AX 2012. We will consider Ranier or whatever the next version is in late 2015 but we have spent a great deal of time optimizing our installation of 2009, and we are just now beginning to see some of the huge benefits of running AX. An upgrade would simply put us back to the bottom of the efficiency curve again so there will have to be a very compelling advantage for us before we do our next upgrade/implementation.
What encouraged you to become involved in AXUG and what do you enjoy most? Being a part of AXUG has been great, especially in the last few years, though I wish I’d taken time to understand it better back in 2009, 2010, and 2011 when I really needed the most support.  For me personally I like to hear other companies’ experiences using the system, and running their business, and then if I can help them capitalize on the system a little more than they already are.  There is great joy in helping another company leverage their use of the system, especially when they can do so without having to buy a 3rd party product, or pay for code customization, but when they can simply utilize existing processes to drastically improve their business.

What encouraged you to become involved in AXUG and what do you enjoy most? I have enjoyed being involved with AXUG for several reasons. The local chapter meetings give you an opportunity to hear the challenges and successes other companies in your area are experiencing, as well as, sharing your own challenges and successes. The AXUG Academy has been an invaluable resource for learning as we have progressed with the software. AXUG SUMMIT has given me a place to go and learn first-hand with other users from industry experts. It is also a time to network and collaborate with contacts you are able to make when we are all together at a national level. Information is key being successful with the AX product. There is no better place than through AXUG to get the information you need to experience that success.
